Black Hill Pony Club

Welcome to Black Hill

Black Hill Pony Club is currently looking for new premises following the Government's decision to sell off its former home at Woodford for development. This is despite a 3000 plus petition signed by people against the sale of the land and MP John Gardener taking the case to Parliament. (Click here to download a transcript of the motion.)

Whilst all livestock has been removed from the land, the Club has been given an extension until 30th June 2011 to remove all equipment.

History of Black Hill Pony Club
Starting
from humble beginnings over 30 years ago, BHPC volunteers moved to its present site over 25 years ago and cleared the land which was literally a tip. The site was a dump full of car bodies, scrap metal and thousands of bricks. Countless hours of manual and mechanical labour, at a great financial cost to the club, was used to transform the land to what it is today. In addition, thousands of wild olive trees and blackberry bushes have been replaced with native trees suggested by 'Trees for Life'. This was all at the Club's expense and we created a small wildlife haven in the suburbs with koalas, wallabies, kangaroos, echidnas and black cockatoos being regular visitors. The land was carefully managed by the Club with strict rotational grazing and frequent spraying taking place.

We are now a Club with over 200 members and associates. With one of the bigger turnouts for any club in the Metropolitan Zone at local competitions, we are a competitive club, competing in novelties, eventing, dressage and showjumping at State Level as well as local competitions and some hack events. Some of our members have even gone on to represent Australia at an international level. However, as a family-orientated club, our main focus at competitions is to maintain a high level of team spirit among competitors and good sportsmanship is a must!
